10.2 won't work on any x86 machine/emulator/visualizer as it was only compiled for PowerPC I believe.
You'll have to buy a Mac or use PearPC to use it.

NOOOOOOOO 10.2 is a PPC only OS, it won't work on VMware, VirtualBox, or even Qemu.
Try PearPC.

10.2 was only compiled for PowerPC I believe.

Every version of mac os X was compiled to work on Intel processors.

watch from 4:40 onwards. it was compiled but no builds were ever leaked.

And with Apple, that's about as good as them not being compiled. At least I'm proved wrong yet again.

Yes Jaguar was released as PowerPC only. It might work if you try running it in an emulator which does PPC architecture. Another thought is using an old-world (classic) Mac emulator and try running XPostFacto in it, people use(d) this for allowing Jag to load on older unsupported machines, it might work in emu also.
Every version of mac os X was compiled to work on Intel processors.

Every version of Darwin was compiled to work on PCs, but the larger Apple desktop system and services are reported to not be very complete. The core system should work, but probably not Aqua, Quicktime, the DisplayPDF graphics, etc, etc. All you get is a nice Mach-BSD filesystem, kernel, and binaries. That's still pretty cool, IMO. Check the mirrors out there for Darwin 6.x.x, version 6 = Jaguar, and there are X86 builds. Still, you'd need to compile all your programs from scratch since Macs apps were still PPC code...

I've always wondered if you could use a bare 10.6 with rosetta to run the majority of 10.1-5...?
But then.. that may very well be crazy talk.

Rosetta is basically an emulator, it is for running programs - but like most emulators it won't touch drivers, kernel stuff, and other low-level, hardware stuff. What this means is that you can't run a whole other operating system inside of it. But if you have *programs* for Jaguar which play nice in 10.6, it may allow them to run.

I'll weigh in on Apple and the 'all releases compiled for Intel as well as PPC' thing.
Apple did say that all releases were compiled and tested for Intel back to 10.0, but what they did NOT say is that they ever released the Intel compilation for anything older than Mac OS X 10.4.4, which was the first version publicly released for Intel.
Those that are trying to make it run in PearPC have the best hope of making 10.2 run shy of owning a Mac from that era that will boot it.

Heh, I used to have my Yikes PowerMac G4 which ran Mac OS 10.0 to Mac OS 10.4. I wiped it however then gave it to my father. Now I have a PowerBook G4 with just over 4x the clock speed
I wonder if I can use my eMac to run Rhapsody...

Nope. If you want to install the PPC version of Rhapsody you need one of the early PPC Macs.

Jaguar is PPC only. If you have a few bucks to spare, might I suggest you get yourself a G3 or early G4 Mac. I have an iMac G3 running Panther, got it for about $50 and it works great. Also looks kinda cool

Mac OS X Jaguar (version 10.2) is the third major release of Mac OS X (now named macOS), Apple's desktop and server operating system. It superseded Mac OS X 10.1 and preceded Mac OS X Panther. The operating system was released on August 23, 2002 either for single-computer installations, and in a “family pack,” which allowed five installations on separate computers in one household.[3] The operating system was generally well received by most Mac users[which?] as a large step forward in the areas of stability, general speed enhancements, compatibility with other flavors of Unix and the lineup of both graphical and terminal applications available; however, many critics, such as Amazon.com users,[citation needed] still claimed that significant user interface speed issues existed and that the operating system was still a big step down from Mac OS 9.[citation needed]

Jaguar was the first Mac OS X release to publicly use its code name in marketing and advertisements.[4]

System requirements[edit]

Mac OS X Jaguar required a PowerPC G3 or G4CPU and 128 MB of RAM.[5] Special builds were released for the first PowerPC G5 systems released by Apple.[5][6][7]

New and changed features[edit]

Mac OS X Jaguar introduced many new features to the Mac OS that remain to this day, including MPEG-4 support in QuickTime[citation needed], Address Book and Inkwell for handwriting recognition[5]. It also included the first release of Apple's Zeroconf implementation, Rendezvous (later referred to as Bonjour), which allows devices over a network to discover each other and display available services to the user, such as file sharing, shared scanners, and printers.

Mac OS X Jaguar Server 10.2.2 added journaling to HFS Plus, the native Macintosh file system, to add increased reliability and data recovery features. This was later added to the standard Mac OS X in version 10.3 Panther.[8]

Quartz Extreme debuted in Jaguar, used to composite graphics directly on the video card, without the use of software to composite windows. The technology allotted the task of drawing the 3D surface of windows to the video card, rather than to the CPU, to increase interface responsiveness and performance.

Universal Access was added to allow the Macintosh to be usable by disabled computer users.

The user interface of the Mac OS was also amended to add search features to the Finder using the updated Sherlock 3.

Internally, Jaguar also added the Common Unix Printing System (also known as CUPS), a modular printing system for Unix-likeoperating systems, and improved support for Microsoft Windows networks using the open-source Samba as a server for the SMB remote file access protocol and a FreeBSD-derived virtual file system module as a client for SMB.

The famous Happy Mac that had greeted Mac users for almost 18 years during the Macintosh startup sequence was replaced with a large grey Apple logo with the introduction of Mac OS X Jaguar.

Marketing[edit]

In October 2002, Apple offered free copies of Jaguar to all U.S K-12 teachers as part of the 'X For Teachers' program. Teachers who wanted to get a copy simply had to fill out a form and a packet containing Mac OS X installation discs and manuals was shipped to the school where they worked.[9]

Jaguar marked the first Mac OS X release which publicly used its code name as both a marketing ploy and as an official reference to the operating system. To that effect, Apple replaced the packaging for Mac OS X with a new jaguar-themed box.

Mac OS X 10.2 was never officially referred to as Jaguar in the United Kingdom due to an agreement with the car manufacturer Jaguar,[citation needed] although boxes and CDs still bore the Jaguar-fur logo.

Starting with Jaguar, OS X releases were given a feline-related marketing name upon announcement until the introduction of OS X Mavericks in June 2013, at which point OS X releases began to be named after locations in California, where Apple is headquartered. OS X releases are now also referred to by their marketing name, in addition to version numbers.
